The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 4 of 21 (To update)

The Gospel According to St. John

Chapter 4

¹ Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard, "Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John" ² although it was not Jesus himself but his disciples who baptized-³ he left Judea and started back to Galilee.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 4 verses 1 to 3)

Oh God, my Father, Your aim was never to be popular and win a popularity poll. You always tried to avoid worldly honours and live a simple and humble life during which You could fulfil the will of  God our Father Amen. I pray that my life may have the same aim and agenda Amen.

⁴ But he had to go through Samaria. ⁵ So he came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. ⁶ Jacob's well was there, and Jesus tired out by his journey, was sitting by the well. It was about noon.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 4 verses 4 to 6)

Oh God my Father many times You pass us through tests, where we have to venture in "Forbidden areas" that are beyond our "Comfort Zones", which could be an illness or a separation, a situation which would cause us to feel stressed and unstable in which way to proceed.

⁷ A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 4 verses 4 to 6)

Oh brothers and sisters many times it is us who are asking God for this and that. However, there are times when God turns on us and asks us to fulfil a particular task. In my case, I had thought that it was a call for the priesthood, but now I realize that he wants me to give him a drink by means of Asylum Seekers and other poor and vulnerable people. When I help them it is as if I am helping You my God and Father Amen.

⁷ A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 4 verse 7)

Oh, Jesus Christ my Father, this is a rare situation, for many times it is You who are the giver and not the recipient. I pray that I will always be found ready and available to serve You directly or even indirectly through other Amen. May I always be ready to help others Amen.

⁸ (His disciples had gone to the city to buy food.)

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 4 verse 8)

Oh God, my Father I thank You for never stopping working in my life. Even when I am working in my everyday life, You are still working on my behalf Amen.

⁹ The Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?" (Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans.)

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 4 verse 9)

Oh God, my Father, I thank You for not being racist or sexist. You do not discriminate in gender or class or status. As sinners, we are all eligible of Your love and mercy whether we are Catholics, Muslims or of any other religion Amen,

The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 of 21

Gospel According to St. John

Chapter 3

¹ Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. ² He came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God."

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verses 1 to 2)

Oh God my beloved Father this Christmas sets before us an important question. This is regarding Your relationship with us. It is time to ask ourselves if we are true worshippers or if we are hypocrites who worship You in secret in a way that others do not know so that we do not get criticised or do we worship and proclaim Your name openly with fear of criticism.

Another question that we are to ask ourselves is who is the God that we claim to believe in? Is he simply a teacher like many others, or a healer or witch doctor? Or are You our God and Father who is fully alive and active in our lives?

I pray that during this time of Christmas 2018 we find time to stop and reflect Amen.

³ Jesus answered him, "Very truly, I tell you no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above."

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 3)

Oh God my blessed Father, I thank You for giving me the opportunity of having a relationship with You, thank You for this second birth in Your Holy Spirit, because due to this birth I can view the world and the circumstances that take place in my life from a different perspective than that viewed by the world. I accept all that happens in the world and in my life as being according to Your will because I believe that You are in control of all that happens in my life Amen and this gives me great comfort and peace of mind Amen.

⁴ Nicodemus said to him, "How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother's womb and be born?"⁵ Jesus answered, "Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. ⁶What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit."

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verses 4 to 6)

Oh God, my Father, I thank You for having given me the opportunity of being born in the Spirit. Even though I am not free of my sinful nature as a human I am aware of Your presence in my life, and this is the fruit of the presence of Your Spirit in me. Amen. I pray that I always remain open to Your Spirit and never try to resist it Amen. Thank You, Jesus.

⁷Do not be astonished that I said to you, 'You must be born from above.'

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 7)

Oh God, my Father, I thank You for the opportunity of being born again from the Spirit. I pray that You continue to support me in this process of growth and spiritual development. I pray that You continue to teach, lead and correct me, by means of Your Word as in the Bible and also as instructed by the Church by means of Your Holy Spirit Amen.

⁸ The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 8)

Oh God my blessed Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I thank You for being present and active in my life, I thank You for this Easter, for blessing and giving me a new birth in the Holy Spirit Amen.

⁹ Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?" ¹⁰ Jesus answered him, "Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things?

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verses  9 to 10)

Oh God, today You ask us the same question.

"You say you believe in me and then you vote in favour of divorce and abortion and accept annulment when scripture says contrary. You believe in the big bang theory and teach it in schools when the bible My Word gives a different version.?"

How can we keep on behaving in this way, my God and Father? Amen

¹¹ "Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. ¹² If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about the heavenly things?

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verses  11 to 12)

Oh God, my Father, You speak to me in a language that I can understand. Many priests use philosophical arguments which are not always understandable and leave me as empty as ever. However, if I doubt Your teachings how can one ever believe?. Help me oh God my Father to always take You at Your Word Amen.

¹³ No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 13)

Oh God, my Father, only those whom You permit to ascend to heaven will do so, for You have power over both heaven and earth and all happens according to Your will Amen.

¹⁴ And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, ¹⁵ that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verses 14 to 15)

Oh, God my Father as the Serpent was lifted up in the old testament, You were lifted up in the New Testament, moreover, we are still to lift up our prayers to You like the people of the New Testament Amen.

¹⁶ "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 16)

Oh God, my Father, You never have stopped giving us, because You love us so much. You gave us Your only son and also Your Mother so that she can also be our mother. I thank You for Your generosity love and kindness and pray that one day I will also share these beautiful and precious characteristics. I pray to be more like You and less like me Amen.

¹⁷ "Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 17)

Oh, brothers and sisters, this is a very important verse. If any of us feels that he or she feels judged or condemned in any way be sure that this is not from God. God sent his Son in order to show us a new way of life leading to our Salvation and not one leading to our condemnation Amen.

¹⁸ Those who believe in him are not condemned, but those who do not believe are condemned already because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 18)

Oh God, my Father I thank You for the gift of faith, for not all practice this gift. Without judging others I pray that we be more aware of our faith and of life after the one on earth Amen.

¹⁹ And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 19)

Oh God, my Father, this is more than true. We are calling the darkness light, and what is light as being darkness. Our perception and logic have become distorted and we are not being righteous in our ways. Amen.

²⁰ For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 20)

Oh God, my Father may Your light shine in me in order to evict all issues of darkness. Where there is Your light there is no opportunity for darkness to exist my God and Father. May You take and keep Your place in me forever Amen.

²¹ But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God,"

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 21)

Oh God my Father, Father of truth and honesty and love. I raise up to You all that I am and also all that I do during my working day and even after work. It is in Your judgment oh God to make me aware of anything that can be improved or totally changed in my life. I place this issue before You my God and Father. I pray that You use all who make part of my inner circles to throw light on this issue Amen. Thanks Jesus.

²² After this Jesus and his disciples went into the Judean countryside, and he spent some time there with them and baptized.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 22)

Oh God, my Father how nice it is to spend time in fellowship with You, where I can experience the bounty of Your presence by means of prayer time. I pray that during such moments You renew the old me to the new me baptized in Your Holy Presence Amen.

²³ John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim because water was abundant there; and people kept coming and were being baptized ²⁴ -John, of course had not yet been thrown into prison.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verses 23 to 24)

Oh God my Father, where You are present graces flow like waterfalls and blessed are those who drink from such waters Amen. I thank You for the power of the Holy Spirit and for being active and present in my life. Your timing is perfect my God and Father Amen.

²⁵ Now a discussion about purification arose between John's disciples and a Jew.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 25)

Oh God my Father since these early times, there was controversy regarding spiritual issues, and ever since Your Holy Spirit has been inspiring us with new insights regarding our faith. Amen.

²⁶ They came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you testified, here he is baptizing and all are going to him."

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 26)

Oh God, my Father many organisations aim at being popular so much that antagonism and animosity are present among such groups of prayer. Teach us oh God my Father to respect and value the charisma and spirituality of each group and not consider each other as a threat Amen.

²⁷ John answered, "No one can receive anything except what has been given from heaven.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 27)

Amen oh God, my Father may I be a channel of Your love. I pray that You continue to use me to accomplish Your works Amen.

²⁸ You yourselves are my witnesses that I said, 'I am not the Messiah, but I have been sent ahead of him.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 28)

Oh brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, you are also my witnesses. Since I had started meditating on the first chapter of the book of Genesis, I declared that I am no priest or person with a background in theology or philosophy. My sole aim was that of sharing these posts with praise that God my Father is sharing with me during this time of morning and evening prayer Amen. The one who is to be honoured is the Lord my God and Father Amen.

²⁹ He who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. For this reason my joy has been fulfilled.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 29)

Oh God, my Father every time I hear the bible or the Gospels proclaimed my joy increases for every time You speak to my heart and mind Amen and my joy is fulfilled.

³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 30)

Oh God, my Father, indeed this is the truth that I must decrease so that You may increase. I pray that when praying on this blog, people will shift their focus from my human intervention and focus on what You are telling them by means of these biblical verses Amen.

³¹ The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks about earthly things. The one who comes from heaven is above all.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 31)

Oh God, my Father I thank You for giving me the criteria by which to live Amen.

³² He testifies to what he has seen and heard, yet no one accepts his testimony. ³³ Whoever has accepted his testimony has certified this, that God is true.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verses 32 to 33)

As a firm believer in You my God and Father, I accept Your testimony as being the whole truth and nothing but the truth which is so true that it is beyond reasonable doubt Amen.

³⁴ He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure. ³⁵ The Father loves the Son and has placed all things in his hands.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verses 34 to 35)

Oh God my Father throughout my life I have met many people whom You sent to enlighten me who reflected the presence of Your Holy Spirit in a great measure. I thank You for such people, my God and Father Amen.

³⁶ Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but must endure God's wrath.

(Gospel according to St. John Chapter 3 verse 36)

Oh God my Father who does not obey the Son does not obey the Father. In turn, who does not obey the Father and the Kingdom of Heaven will end up obeying the ways of the world, and such people will invest in their own destruction of both body and soul. Amen.

Oh God, my Father, I would like to end this meditation on the third chapter of the Gospel according to St. John with the following prayer:-

Oh brothers and sisters in the Lord God and Father Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, now is the time to bear witness to our faith in Jesus. Many people are still confused by this pandemic because they are unsure if this is from God or from humans. I pray that we stand up for the truth and let us be guided by the Holy Spirit Amen.
